An arresting passage from Lyle Lovett's Natural Forces (the title track on the album of the same name):
Now as I sit here safe at home;
With a cold Coors Light and the TV on;
All the sacrifice and the death and war;
Lord I pray that I'm worth fighting for . . .
In all the debate and discussion about why we fight, very rarely have I come across this kind of introspective observation-- one that admits doubt.
